Stilthomes offer includes the provision of the structural steel frame, along with the concrete ground floor. As standard, project costs also include design calculations of a suitable concrete foundation to be provided by the developer. Wall and roof envelope cassettes are lifted in to place by the housebuilder. The internal ground floor cassettes are sited before the wall panels are lifted in to place.
Additional floors and services are to be provided as traditional by the developer, either in timber, steel or concrete/ beam and block.
Approved Document L :
Stilthomes envelope cassettes look to provide enhanced insulation performances over the minimum approved document L requirements. Generally, roof and ground floor cassettes provide a 0.10 W/m2K u-value, while external wall cassettes provide a 0.15W/m2K u-value.
Stilts :
Stilt heights of 1830mm (6ft) and 3050mm (10ft) are available. Where planning conditions, or developer preferences require shorter stilt heights, then the foundations can be sunk further underground. Steel stilts are surrounded by a protective collar, which is then backfilled with concrete.
Reduced site programme :
With traditional housing, it can take weeks to build the envelope of a house excluding potential weather delays – all time that delays the release of the completed homes for sale. Stilthomes steel frame and prefabricated cladding panels mean that homes can be ready for internal fit out within days, not weeks.
Improved Health & Safety :
This method of construction also reduces potential health and safety risks on site. With the envelope all built under workshop conditions, the completed cassettes are lifted in to position and secured from the inside.
Materials :
With the demand on bricks becoming a concern, potentially driving up costs, Stilthomes factory assembled envelope cassettes include either uPVC or timber doors and windows. Alternative styles in each are also available to suit your own branding. In particular, our timber windows offer includes all styles including sliding sash and casement types. All glazing comes compliant to Approved Document L requirements, and is toughened.
The roof cassettes can be provided with two alternative cladding options :
